What is your experience?

I have spent over 30 years in technological innovation, as an entrepreneur and executive in information technology multinationals. After graduating in Business Science in Madrid in 1990, I created the first cybersecurity company in Spain, and after 8 years of growth we merged with McAfee, the global leader in the speciality. From there I developed my international professional career at McAfee and Intel as European Vice President of Inter Security. I am currently an investor and advisor in high growth technology start-ups and CEO and founder of Smart Protection.

What makes you most proud to belong to Nazca?

The combination of the greatest professionalism along with the personal quality of the team and how this is conveyed to investee companies.

What motivates you most in working with a management team?

Understanding, and if necessary helping the management team to understand how technology can transform their business for the better, and to be able to implement and see tangible results of these changes.

What challenges must entrepreneurs take into account when considering incorporating a private equity fund?

I have had the opportunity to be in this situation as an investee and an investor. In short, I would say that the challenge is to find the appropriate combination between chemistry with the investment team and in particular with the board member incorporated into the project, and the value provided by the fund in the potential areas of improvement and growth of the company. The third factor would be evaluation, but in my opinion it is not the most important of the three.

What do you like most about your work?

Learning about and analysing different sectors, understanding new business models and coming into contact with the current founders or managers to see how we can help them to improve their business through technology.

How do you spend your free time?

I like to spend the weekend with my family and friends, running and playing padel tennis, and reading and learning new things related with technology.
