Nazca sells Biogran, the leading manufacturer and distributor of organic food in Spain
Nazca has sold Biogran, a leader in Europe in the organic food market, to Wessanen, a listed Dutch company with €600 million in sales.
Biogran is the leader in the organic food market in Spain, commercialising own brands of renowned prestige. The company is notable for its excellent innovation, distribution and relationship with its clients. It is an expert in the supply of organic food raw materials and management of quality and manufacturing processes. It employs 128 people and currently operates in two centres in Madrid.
During recent years, Biogran has experienced strong growth in both the specialist channel and in the large distribution channel, increasing its sales from €27 million in 2015 to €33 million in 2016 and improving its profitability by up to 17% (EBITDA on sales).
Nazca has supported the professionalisation process of Biogran, which has moved from being a family business to a highly professionalised company, without losing its strong family culture, and has developed an ambitious growth plan to consolidate its position of leadership on the Spanish organic food market. The management team of Biogran will continue to lead the development of the company in this new stage.
The robust experience of Wessanen in developing family businesses in international markets and their vocation for natural, organic food makes it an ideal partner for Biogran. With its support, Biogran will strengthen its position as the leading company in organic and natural food in Spain. Wessanen has seen the opportunity for growth presented by the organic food market in Spain and selected Biogran as its development platform in this market.
This transaction is aligned with the Nazca investment strategy focused on creating strategic value in family businesses with ambitious growth projects and subsequent divestment to an industrialist.
Alantra and DLA acted as advisors for Nazca, and Hogan Lovells for Wessanen.
