This move reflects a trend toward vertical integration that is becoming increasingly common across the European independent film market, while further reinforcing Filmin\u2019s commitment to theatrical distribution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Filmin, we\u2019ve always viewed streaming as a complement to theatrical distribution and have championed movie theaters as where it all begins. This agreement with Elastica, with whom we share a vision and values, strengthens our position in the market and will allow us to bring the best cinema from the red carpet to internet-connected devices,\u201d says Juan Carlos Tous, CEO and founder of Filmin.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Enrique Costa, founder of Elastica, highlights the fact that \u201cwe share innovation and vision with Filmin, which is recognized both in Spain and abroad as a model and leader in the world of streaming platforms, and with which we share a dedication and passion for the art of cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agreement between the two companies, which will continue to operate independently, is limited to Elastica&#8217;s Acquisitions and Distribution division and will not affect any other past or future commitments that the two firms may have with other players in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis agreement is the happy ending to a love story about movie theaters and cinema, one<\/p>\n<p>that will benefit audiences and is committed to ensuring that high-quality independent films<\/p>\n<p>reach the widest possible audience,\u201d say Filmin and Elastica.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership ensures that Filmin can offer its subscribers some of the most anticipated films of the coming months distributed by Elastica, such as the winner of the M\u00e1laga Film Festival, \u201cYo no morir\u00e9 de amor\u201d directed by Marta Matute; \u201cBackrooms\u201d, this season&#8217;s international horror film sensation, which topped the Spanish box office with more than 200,000 viewers in its first weekend; \u201cThe Riders,\u201d the upcoming film by Edward Berger (\u201cConclave\u201d), produced and starring Brad Pitt; or \u201cDe noche,\u201d the upcoming film by Todd Haynes (\u201cCarol\u201d), starring Pedro Pascal.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2021, Filmin has been distributing some of the titles in its catalog in theaters, alongside Elastica and other distributors, and this move reaffirms its commitment to the big screen. The two companies have co-distributed more than a dozen titles in recent years, since they began their collaboration in 2021 with Leos Carax\u2019s \u201cAnette.\u201d These include commercial hits such as \u201cLa sustancia,\u201d which grossed more than 3.6 million euros in Spain; \u201cAnatomy of a Fall,\u201d winner of the Palme d\u2019Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay; and \u201cDrive My Car\u201d (Oscar for Best International Feature Film in 2022).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are complementary companies and share the belief that cinema makes us better as people and as a society.
